What we treat

Plain names, plain expectations.

  1. 01

    Back and neck pain

Low back that's been there for years, a neck that seizes at a desk, sciatica down one leg. The most common reason anyone walks in here, and the one with the best evidence.

  2. 02

    Headaches and migraine

Tension headaches that arrive at three in the afternoon, and migraine that arrives with no warning at all. We work on how often first, then how hard.

  3. 03

    Stress and sleep

Wired at midnight, flat at noon. Treatment slows things down enough that sleep can happen on its own; most people notice it within the first two or three visits.

  4. 04

    Digestion

Bloating, reflux, a gut you can't predict. We treat it alongside your physician's plan, not instead of it, and we'll ask what you eat without judging it.

  5. 05

    Fertility support

Cycle regularity, the stress of trying, and support before and during IVF, timed to your clinic's calendar. What it adds is comfort and consistency, not a guarantee, and we'll say that out loud.

  6. 06

    Recovery from injury

Sprains, strains, post-surgical stiffness, the shoulder that never quite came back. Acupuncture, cupping and simple homework, coordinated with your physio if you have one.

Your first visit

Seventy-five minutes. No rush, no jargon.

  1. A real conversation

About half an hour. What hurts, how you sleep, what you've tried, what your days actually look like. We'll take your pulse at the wrist and look at your tongue, which tells us more than it sounds like it should.

  2. A gentle first treatment

Fewer needles than later visits, placed while we explain what each one is for. Then the lamp goes low and you rest for twenty-five minutes under a blanket. Cupping if it's useful, never by default.

  3. A plan with a number in it

Before you leave you'll know how many visits we think it takes, how far apart, and when we'd expect to see change. For most pain that's four to six weekly visits, then a reassessment. If it isn't working by then, we'll say so and talk about what's next.

The needles are thinner than a hair. Most people fall asleep.

Services and fees

Stated plainly, the way we wish everyone did.

Prices are per visit and include everything we do in the room. No booking fees, no charge for the conversation, and herbs are billed at what we pay for them.

The practitioners

Two people, one room each, no double-booking.

Lian Wu, licensed acupuncturist, in a linen tunic in the treatment room

Lian Wu, L.Ac., MSOM

Licensed acupuncturist · Master of Science in Oriental Medicine · Board-certified in acupuncture and Chinese herbology · Practicing since 2009

Trained in Chengdu and here. She'll ask about your sleep before she asks about your back, and it will turn out to be related.

Ben Carlisle, licensed acupuncturist, seated beside a treatment table

Ben Carlisle, L.Ac., DACM

Licensed acupuncturist · Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine · Board-certified in acupuncture · Practicing since 2017

Came to this after acupuncture fixed a running injury two physios had given up on. Still runs. Still a little surprised.

Insurance and HSA

Out of network, on purpose.

Long visits are the point of this clinic, and insurance contracts are how visits get short. So we're out of network with every plan. After each visit you'll get a superbill with the diagnosis and procedure codes on it; many PPO plans reimburse part of the fee, and we'll help you find out whether yours does before you commit to a course of visits.

HSA and FSA cards work at the desk. Motor-vehicle and workers' compensation claims are handled case by case; call before you book.

The space

Two treatment rooms, a tea tray, and nothing that beeps.
